Just sold my Victos Battle Axe for 45g! What a great feeling this is. I feel like an idiot. At least i will be more careful in the future.

What did they do wrong? Its not like he hacked into the persons account. I'm sorry to say it, but most of the blame is on the seller.

the old "cancel then put the wrong amount of money in, and the person is in such a hurry they accept it" routine.

im surprised people still fall for this. At least you learned your lesson and it wont happen to you again

never been scammed but attempted... its just i'm way over protective i usualy sit there for 2 minutes stairing at the trade window hoping it isnt a scammer... you dont know how many times i've not been scammed but in this hopeless dilusion thinking i did end up flaming a non scamming buyer XD

There's a few easy ways to avoid getting scammed that I follow everytime I sell something for more than 10k.

1. Example: You're selling Victos Battle Axe. You want to sell it for 45k, and someone whispers that they want to buy it. After you put in the axe and they put in the money, watch the lower left part of the chat box and wait for the "xxx has accepted your offer." As soon as you see that, double check the money, then accept. NEVER rush through a trade.

2. If you're overly cautious, like me, sell things for weird prices. Selling Victos Battle Axe for 44,999 gold will not only interest people to buy it, but will help prevent people from scamming. It's harder to fake 44,999 gold than it is for them to stick a 45 in the wrong slot. I've actually sold a weapon for 15k once to a guild member, but they put in 15g in purely by mistake. Sometimes people are in a bigger rush than you.

Just keep your eyes peeled, and when someone tries to scam you in-game, let everyone know. That's the best way to stop someone.

Yeah that happened to me too.. was selling Koles torment and Victos axe.. guy first wants both for 70k then says that he only wants the Axe and gives me the axe for 70g...

Ah well.. live and learn..

when u are trading,
ONLY look at what he offer, no matter what he says, just look what offer he submitted
thats all

whenever u saw his offer is "right", click accept immediately
dont let him modify or distract u

Another thing buyers tend to do now is state the figure only, e.g.

SELLER: WTS blah, blah, blah 45K
BUYER: I'll buy for 45
SELLER: OK

This gives the seller the ability to give either 45K or 45g. For most of us, it's obvious the seller wants 45K, but agreeing to 45 gives a little edge to the scammer as he/she can say they meant 45g and you agreed.

When buyers do this, I always follow up with a confirmation (in this case) "For 45K, it's yours. Okay?" and see what their response is.

If at anytime a person I'm trading with just cancels, or modifies the offer for no reason (i.e. what they offered was correct in the first place) I back out of the trade and look for someone else.

When buying or selling something expensive, never rush and take your time to check and double check the items or gold amount. It probably took you a long while to get your gold or that item you're selling, so an extra bit of time during trading to ensure you get what you want shouldn't be a problem.

So hey, let's be careful out there.

why, just why?

it's not that you signed a contract or something. if you don't want to sell, you don't need to.

if he offers you 50g instead of 50k, just laugh at him and say "nice try" or something and move on. there is no contract or stuff that forces you to give your stuff away...

some people really enjoy doing this , i hate so much selling and buying , i give most of my greens to guildies ... even if they leave the guild the next day i dont care , at least i feel good giving stuff.

I didn't mean that you were obligated to sell at that agreed price. What I meant was, after agreeing and you continued with the trade quickly without checking properly and only found out afterwards. You can't truly argue that you got scammed because you didn't get what you were expecting.

when things like this happen it's the sellers fault and it's a stupid thing to report.
only thing i can say, u live and u learn. just assume from the start any1 will attempt a scam and double chek everything.

that can happens by mistake too. I often cancel trades by accident, I hit escape because I typed something, and then I'm "nah, don't need to say it actually" and hit escape, and the trade is canceled. It's annoying if people don't want to trade with you after that.

Come on what's this trash ? Don't tell me that ANYBODY buying ectos/shards/sup runes/priced items don't know they should put the amount in plats and not gold.

The 45g instead of 45K scam just is lame, and now these crappy scammers are trying to fool around saying(i said i would pay 45 not 45K, gg for reporting). Anet should ban those people, purely and simply, no matter they say.

And for the background, no i've not been scammed yet but almost had once (people offering 8g for an ecto).

Someone tried to pull that on me. They put in 50g when I asked for 50k. I called them on it and they quickly left the game. I'm pretty sure they were trying to scam me since they made a hasty exit.

I did this to a person once.. I put in 500G instead of 5k for something I was buying, they took the trade then I realized what I had done. I had to chase that guy all over before he would let me open the trade window with him to fix it. He didn't even realize I had made the mistake.
